Songs in the Night
When contemplating putting together another CD with a third collection of songs I didn’t yet have a clear idea of what songs this would include - that is until direction came to my heart with complete clarity! It would be titled Songs in the Night and it would be a compilation of songs that were just that – given to me in the “night”. In the above referenced verses the Hebrew word “night” is a word that means “adversity”. In other words, not the literal nighttime but a dark time, a hard time, an evil time, a time of trial and of the testing of our faith.
So included on this CD are songs that would fall into one of several categories: a song given to me through one of my own personal “night” times as in Fearfully and Wonderfully Made and Behold Your God; songs given to me when someone I knew was going through a difficult time as in We Do Not Sorrow As The World and I Will Open Fountains, or even through a national “night” time of sorrow and difficulty as in America Will Stand Tall written six days after the September 11th attacks.
Other songs serve to strengthen the faith of and encourage anyone facing adversity as in Heal Me, Save Me, Stretch Forth Your Hand to Heal and City of Refuge. Still other songs remind us to not overlook how the heart of God is affected by the fact that people still do not know Him as in He Does Weep Over Cities Still, a song that was written based on a sermon that impacted me. Also included on this CD are two songs that serve to pierce the darkness of the “night” simply by declaring the greatness and the power of Almighty God as in The Visible God and Battle Hymn of the Republic, the latter being done in a minor key which seems to make the prophetic lyrics even more captivating.
Finally, included are songs that hopefully would draw the listener into pure worship—I Sing Unto Him, Our Father, At His Feet and Cast My Crown – so that any type or form of darkness would automatically be dispelled and displaced by the glorious light of God’s presence!
It is the desire of my heart that the contents of this CD would cause hope, faith, comfort, and encouragement to rise in the heart of the listener, as well as stirring up a deeper desire and passion for God. I am completely grateful and forever thankful to God for surrounding and providing me with all of those who had a part -in many ways, shapes and forms - in bringing this third project into a reality. May we remember always, to call on God our Maker, Who gives songs in the night!
